When it comes to education, there is a constant focus on remediation. Granted helping struggling students improve should never be slighted or taken lightly. Neither should the task of encouraging successful or above average students. And at Mathnasium in Canton, Ohio, it isn’t. Here, math is more than problems for students from North Canton, Ohio; Massillon, Ohio; and surrounding areas to solve. It’s also a source of stimulation for students already on track. And if your child is up to the challenge, they can experience Mathnasium for free at its upcoming math competition – the National Trimathlon.
Modeled after a triathlon, the free math competition is open to students in grades two through five. Each child will receive a gift just for participating, and their correct answers will earn money for local schools. We’ll tell you more about that extraordinary caveat in a bit. For now, let’s discuss the details of the National Trimathlon and how you can register your achiever for the event.
The festive math competition will have three challenges that successful and above average students are sure to find exciting! The first is The Counting Game. This activity will test participants’ ability to count to any number, from any number, and by any number. Round two will feature The Magic Squares Challenge where kids from Canton, North Canton, and Massillon will earn points for creating math problems. And the third and final leg of the National Trimathlon will be the Mental Math Workout. Ideal for successful and above average students, this portion of the competition will charge the kids to solve math problems without pencil and paper!
As they score, so will other students in Northeast Ohio. Each right answer will contribute to a donation to DonorsChoose.org. The well known website with a well respected mission allows teachers to explain and elicit funds for school projects. National and notable like the National Trimathlon, DonorsChoose.org makes math, science, art, field trips, and other projects that wouldn’t be possible, possible. And your child can be a part of the progress while making progress of their own.
The National Trimathlon will take place on Saturday, October 19, 2013. For additional details and to register your child for the free math competition, visit Mathnasiumtrimathlon.com or call Mathnasium at 330.492.6284. Successful and above average students in North Canton, Ohio; Massillon, Ohio; and other parts of Northeast Ohio are encouraged to take part. And most parents would agree that the personal growth and community service components make the event a win-win opportunity for all!
